Hey there!
Have you ever seen talking boots? Well I have- and boy was it eye-opening!
I was working at a warehouse where a lot of pallets, forklifts, pallet jacks and other equipment was used on a regular basis. One day, I was talking to one of our employees about a safety topic. We had finished talking, and as he was walking away, I saw it! His right boot was talking back at me!
The back of his boot was separated from the bottom of his boot. And the thing that caught my eye about it, was the fact that he also had a hole in his sock- which made the skin of his heel really highlight the fact that the boot was quite damaged. When I asked him if he knew his boot was damaged, he said that he knew, but just didn't want to replace them yet- they were still good!
So, if you are just starting off in the safety business, or you have been doing safety for a while, I have one reminder for us all- check everyone's safety footwear on a regular basis!
What is regular? usually every 3 to 6 months is a good way to start out, depending on the industry and amount of usage the footwear is getting. If you start at once per quarter, you will see how often you need to change that amount to.
I will never forget seeing that boot talking back at me as the employee walked away. It sure was eye-catching! Until next time, be safe and be well! - Safety Simon
